Water Purifiers Information and Reviews

Last Updated on July 28, 2020 by Ashwini G

Water is a primary source through which various bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants enter our body leading to serious health problems. Water contamination can either be a man-made problem or a natural one. This makes it necessary to drink the water after filtering it through a water filtration system.

Water purifiers are devices that help in decontaminating the water by using various physical, chemical, and biological processes. While there are dozens of benefits in using water purifiers, it often becomes difficult to choose the right type of water filter. But our review on water purifiers will help you make an informed decision.

Types of Water Purifiers

  • Active Carbon Filters

Carbon blocks or granules are charged with silver molecules through which the water passes for filtration.

What it filters? Soluble gases like carbon monoxide, ammonia, nitrogen, chlorine, and other organic materials like leaves, dead algae, and other water contaminants

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) Filters

Semi-permeable membrane with extremely tiny pores through which water is forced for filtration

What it filters? Dissolved impurities and Inorganic Compounds

  • Ultraviolet Filtration (UV)

Water goes into a cylindrical chamber containing a UV lamp which deactivates or kills pathogens.

What it filters? Biologically unsafe water

  • Ultra Filtration (UF)

Uses the principle of size exclusion in which water and solutes of low molecular weight is passed

What it filters? Suspended solids, Cryptosporidium, Giardia

  • Sediment Filtration

Follows the principle of gravity where water passes through the filter, and the suspended particles get trapped.

What it filters? Clay, silt, sand, and organic materials, suspended manganese and iron, turbidity

Different Sizes Of Water Filters

  • Small-Sized – Electronic water filters, activated carbon filters, reverse osmosis systems, and ion exchange filters.
  • Medium-Sized – Most reverse osmosis systems, ozone filters, some distillation filters, and ion exchange filters with large capacity.
  • Large-Sized – Deionization units, whole-house multi-layer filters, and whole-house water softeners

Water filter mounting options

  • Under-sink installation
  • On-counter installation
  • Pitchers or Dispensers
  • Faucet Mounted
